Vote scheduled to fill vacant Saline Co. Commission seat after Shadwick's resignation

A meeting will be held by the Saline County Republican Central Committee to select the replacement of Saline County Commission District #1 seat.

According to the committee, the meeting will be held on Thursday, May 7 at the McKenzie Center (308 W. Elm) inside Room 2.

This follows after former Saline County Commissioner, Monte Shadwick announced his resignation on Monday, April 20, 2026.

Only current Republican precinct committeemen and committeewomen residing in County Commission District #1 seat are eligible to vote to fill the unexpired term, according to the committee.

Once the vote is finalized, it will head to the Governor's office and will be a gubernatorial appointment.

The next Commissioner is expected to be in office either the May 19 Saline or June 2, 2026 Saline County Commission public meeting. 

Eligibility Requirement:

Individuals interested in filling the unexpired term must reside in Saline County Commission District #1.

Interested individuals should contact Saline County Republican Central Committee Chair, Brenda Smith at (785) 822-5794 or Vice Chair Tony Newell at (785) 577-6640 by May 1, 2026.

Candidates will have an opportunity to speak at the May 7 meeting prior to the vote by precinct committeemen and committeewomen.

Smith and Newell are available to answer any questions.

Due to space constraints, the meeting will not be open to the public.
