The Kansas City Chiefs took a big step toward shoring up their offensive line on Tuesday as sources reported that the team had reached an agreement with right guard Trey Smith.
This agreement is a four-year, $94 million contract extension with $70 million guaranteed, making this the most money ever awarded to an NFL guard.
Along with Bengals wideout Tee Higgins, Smith was the only other player to receive the franchise tag this offseason, but the Pro Bowler was well rewarded for his efforts.
In addition to his Pro Bowl selection, Smith has also been exceptionally durable during his four seasons in the league, missing just one game during four Chiefs postseason runs.
