Leslie R. “Les” Thiessen, 88, peacefully passed away on September 20, 2022 at Pine Village in Moundridge, KS.

Les was born to Jacob E. Thiessen and Bertha Androes Thiessen on November 24, 1933. He was born on the family farm near Meade, KS. His family moved to Inman, KS when he was six years old.

Les was baptized on August 13, 1950, becoming a member of the Inman Mennonite Church. After his marriage to Joy Ann Goering, he transferred his membership to Eden Mennonite Church, where he remained a faithful member until his passing.

Following his graduation from Inman High School in 1952, Les worked at Rodney Milling Company in McPherson, KS before serving with the United States Army in Germany from March 1956 through March 1958.

Les and Joy met on a blind date, and they were married on May 24, 1960. They were blessed with three daughters, Connie Jean, Karen Sue, and Cheryl Kay. The family later grew to include three sons-in-law, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

In 1998, Les retired from Sterling Drug in McPherson. He greatly enjoyed his retirement and was able to spend more time on his favorite hobby of woodworking. He loved to create things for his grandkids, and over the years made many treasured items including child-size furniture, rocking horses, doll cradles, and much more.

Les was preceded in death by his parents Jacob and Bertha Thiessen; two sisters, Velma Carden and Shirley Shuff; and two brothers, Larry Thiessen and Ronald Thiessen.

Survivors include his wife Joy Thiessen of Moundridge; three daughters, Connie Achilles (Stan) of Newton, Karen Ortiz (Fred) of Wichita, and Cheryl Boesker (Gary) of Canton; six grandchildren, Kristen McCormick (Luke) of Salina, Stephanie Phetteplace (Mike) of Park City, Cori Huffman (Joel) of Wichita, Jordan Nice (Alena) of Newton, Tyler Boesker of Canton, and Chelsea Craytor (Matt) of Wichita; and three great-grandchildren, Olivia McCormick, Henry McCormick, and Ezekiel Craytor.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Eden Mennonite Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, September 23 at Moundridge Funeral Home, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
