The sub-state round of the 2021 playoffs has officially come to a close and two of our area teams will be moving on to their respective state tournaments.
Solomon and Salina South had boys teams in action this evening, each with a chance to punch their tickets to state against the best team in their classes.
The Solomon Gorillas wrapped up their game with #1 Little River first, but fell short to the best team in 1A division-I by a final score of 75-39.
The Gorillas wrap up their 2020-21 campaign at 17-6 but will return a good portion of their roster for another run in 2021-22.
Little River advances to a second consecutive state tournament thanks in large part to senior Jayden Garrison, who eclipsed 2,000 career points tonight in the win.
The South Cougars also had a meeting with the #1 team in the state, travelling to Hays to take on the undefeated Indians.
South battled hard but fell short of the now 22-0 Indians who will advance to the state tournament next week.
The Cougars wrap up their season at 16-5 and will lose seven of the team's nine leading scorers next season.
With the sub-state round in the books the only two teams making it to state will be the Salina Central Lady Mustangs and the Abilene Cowboys. We’ll have matchups and game previews for both once the state tournament brackets are released.
