T-Birds' Thompson earns USTFCCCA weekly honor

NEW ORLEANS, La. - For the third time this year and the first time during the 2023 outdoor track and field season, Cloud County Community College women's track and field student-athlete Miracle Thompson has been named United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association Women's Track Athlete of the Week.

The award for Thompson comes following USTFCCCA NJCAA Track Athlete of the Week honors on Jan. 24 and Feb. 21 during the 2023 indoor season and is the first Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference women's track athlete to earn Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season.

Competing at the 2023 NJCAA Region VI Championships this past weekend in Coffeyville, Kansas, Thompson won the 100-meter hurdles in a wind-aided time of 13.25 seconds to record the number 11 performance in NJCAA history under all conditions while winning the event by 0.53 seconds.

Thompson later clocked a personal-best time of 1:04.00 to win the 400 hurdles by 3.32 seconds before finishing off with a third-leg carry on the Cloud County's victorious 4×400 relay, which won by 7.73 seconds in a time of 3:49.78. Thompson contributed 22.5 total team points as the T-Birds tallied 182.5 points to earn runner-up honors in Region VI scoring and tallied 256 points to win the KJCCC West Division crown.
