Kansas Wesleyan Softball got its first two wins of the KCAC conference season as the Coyotes swept the Bethel Threshers 5-2 and 5-3 on Saturday at Salina South High School fields.
The first game was scoreless until the Coyotes got on the board in the fourth. Kendell Wilcox doubled and Keira Hammen singled. Wilcox would score on a wild pitch to get the Coyotes on the board.
KWU continued to pull ahead score four times in the fifth. MacKenzie Vela and Becca Kennon led off the inning with hits and Wilcox would drive in a run with a single. Another run scored when Keira Hammen reached on an error and Kama Seminavage and Madison Geer got singles to bring in runs.
Bethel got a run in the sixth and another in the seventh as the Threshers tried to rally, but the Coyotes would fend off any sort of building chlallenge.
Wilcox, Seminavage and Vela had two hits each. Alli Mickelsen went the distance for the Coyotes, scattering six hits and two runs, one earned, for the Coyotes.
In the second game, the Coyotes got on the board early. Brooklyn Lange singled, stole second and then scored on a double by Wilcox.
Bethel got on the board in the second, but the Coyotes added two more in the bottom of the inning. Lange singled and then scored on a double by Wilcox. The Coyotes loaded the bases and got one more run when Seminavage hit a sacrifice fly.
Bethel made things interesting in the fifth scoring two runs, taking advantage of a KWU error in the inning.
The Coyotes got a big insurance run in the sixth as Wilcox homered in the inning.
Vela and Wilcox had three hits each to lead the Coyotes. Wilcox drove in three runs. Addie Herrera got the win allowing three runs, only one earned, on six hits.
