NWS: With the heat and dry comes high grassland fire danger

The hot and dry weather we are experiencing brings with it high grassland fire danger.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wichita, hot and dry weather will prevail across the region for today and Wednesday.

Very high grassland fire danger levels will affect locations west of Interstate 135 (I-135) for this afternoon afternoon, NWS noted. Outdoor burning should be avoided. Additionally, very high grassland fire danger is forecast on Wednesday for locations west of I-135 in central Kansas. Timing is from about 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. each day, NWS reported.

A front will sag southward into the area and bring chances of storms to the region for Thursday afternoon into the weekend. Chances for storms be will higher across central Kansas, NWS noted. A few strong to severe storms will be possible.
