A car reported stolen in north Salina Thursday morning was located in the same neighborhood later in the day.
According to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester, the owner of the 2011 Honda Civic, Bessie Rhodes, 62, of Andover, told police that she had loaned her car to a friend who drove it to a mobile home park at 917 North 13th Street. The man left the keys and his cell phone in the car, Forrester added.
At about 5:30 a.m. Thursday, the man looked out and saw a white female get in the vehicle and drive off, he said. The car is valued at $5,000, Forrester said.
At 3:15 p.m., officers were sent to the 900 block of North 13th Street for the report that the missing Civic was there, Forrester reported. An acquaintance of Rhodes had called and told her the car was in that location, he said. Rhodes told police that the passenger side mirror had been damaged and a basket of clothes and her medication were taken from the car, Forrester said.
Officers were told that a male acquaintance of Rhodes had seen a female driving the car and demanded the keys from her, Forrester explained. The woman gave him the keys, Forrester added.
Police are looking for a known suspect in the case, he said.
