A Salina man was out $1,200 after visiting an acquaintance Friday evening.
The 61-year-old Salina man was visiting an acquaintance at an apartment at 837 East Wayne Avenue between 6:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning. After the man left, he realized that his wallet, which contained $1,200 in cash, was missing, Forrester explained.
The man told police that he returned to the apartment complex and inquired as to whether anyone had see the wallet, Forrester said. A female acquaintance said she had found the wallet on the ground near a dumpster, however the $1,200 in cash was missing, he added.
According to Forrester, surveillance video from the area showed a man in a bright green shirt exit the apartment building and place an item on the ground near the dumpster. The video was shown to the victim who identified the man as the acquaintance he had been visiting: Walter Hopkins, 55, of Salina, Forrester said.
Hopkins was arrested on a requested charge of felony theft, Forrester said.
