A passenger was injured in a two-vehicle accident early Thursday afternoon on South Ohio Street.

A 1987 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Alberto Castro-Arceo, 23, of Salina, was southbound in the inside lane of the 900 block of South Ohio Street at 12:10 p.m. Thursday when it came upon traffic that was stopped, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning.

Castro-Arceo attempted to stop, but ended up spinning the Silverado into the outside lane and then back into the inside lane, striking a southbound 2003 Chrysler Town and Country minivan that was stopped in traffic, Forrester explained. The minivan was driven by Cassie Jones, 29, of Gypsum, who had a 37-year-old female passenger and a two-year-old male passenger in the vehicle with her, he said. The female passenger complained of lower back pain and was transported to Salina Regional Health Center, Forrester said.

The pickup had front-end damage and the minivan had passenger-side damage, but both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene, he said.

Castro-Arceo was cited for careless driving and no proof of insurance, Forrester said.
