A Salina man was cited for unlawful restraint after an incident Wednesday evening at Schwan's.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning that officers initially were called to Schwans at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday for the report of a hostage situation however, when they arrived, the subject, a Schwan's employee, had calmed down and other employees had walked him from the building.

According to the report, Garrett Powell, 23, of Salina, was complaining about being injured and some of the other Schwan's employees were trying to talk with him about that, Forrester said. Powell then allegedly claimed that one of the other employees had taken the SIM card from his phone. When the other employees attempted to leave the room, Powell allegedly blocked the door, Forrester said. The employees eventually were able to convince Powell to walk outside, he added.

Powell was transported to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment of a thumb injury, Forrester said.

Powell was cited for three counts of unlawful restraint, he said.
