A traffic stop for an improper turn led to the discovery of approximately 14 pounds of marijuana in north Salina late Wednesday night.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning that at approximately 11:15 p.m. Wednesday an officer observed a silver Hyundai Sonata turn south onto North Ninth Street from West Diamond Drive. The vehicle made an improper turn and failed to signal, Forrester said.

The officer made a traffic stop at the Pilot Travel Center, 1944 North Ninth Street, he said.

The officer detected the odor of raw marijuana, asked to search the car, and was given permission to do so by the driver of the Sonata, Kevin Odom, 60, of Deland, Fla., Forrester explained. During the search, the officer located in the car six medicine bottles containing a total of 21 grams of marijuana and 24 vaccuum-sealed packages of marijuana weighing a total of just under 14 pounds, Forrester said.

Odom was arrested on the following requested charges, Forrester said.

Possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute; greater than 450 grams and less than 30 kilograms

No drug tax stamp

Possession of drug paraphernalia
