She married Carl Wesley Ostrom in February 1965, and to this union two children were born, John and Julie. Following school, Carolyn returned to Belleville where she started her nursing career at the Republic County Hospital, first as an acute care nurse before she transitioned to the Long Term Care Unit. Carolyn became the Director of Long Term Care, a position that she held for over 40 years.

In November 1984, Carolyn married Dale Frankamp. They lived in Belleville and attended the Belleville Wesleyan Church. Carolyn enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren. She took her grandchildren on camping trips, to rodeos and horse shows.
