A fire that destroyed a shed in north Salina late Saturday night has been declared an arson.
According to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester, officers and Salina Fire Department personnel were sent to 1015 North Ninth Street at approximately 10:50 p.m. Saturday for the report of a fire. A shed in back of the residence had been completely destoyed by fire, he noted.
Forrester explained that it appeared that someone had broken the lock off the shed. The back door of the residence also was damaged and it appeared that someone had been staying inside the vacant residence, he noted. Officers located other damage inside the residence, Forrester added.
The shed was valued at $5,000, damage to several windows in the residence was estimated at $350, damage to the rear door was estimated at $100, and damage to the lock on the shed was estimated at $25, Forrester reported.
The Salina Fire Department ruled the fire an arson, he noted.
The property is owned by Prime Property of Salina, according to Forrester.
The case is still under investigation, he added.
