GYPSUM -- A Gypsum man driving a pickup without lights on led a Saline County Sheriff's deputy on a chase before he was apprehended south of Gypsum early Saturday morning.

Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan said this morning that a deputy on patrol in Gypsum shortly after midnight Saturday noticed a white 2017 Ford one-ton dually driving without headlights on. When the deputy attempted to pull over the pickup, it took off south out of Gypsum along South Gypsum Valley Road, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph, Soldan said.

The pickup finally stopped south of Hobbs Creek Road, and Alexander Weller, 27, of Gypsum, was arrested on suspicion of the following, Soldan said.

Flee and elude

Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs

Transporting an open container

No ignition interlock device

Racing on a highway

Obstruction in the service of a warrant (when officials attempted to determine Weller's blood alcohol level)
