OTTAWA COUNTY —One person died in an accident just before 10:30a.m. Monday in Ottawa County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2007 Volvo semi driven by John Tibbits, 76, Minneapolis, was westbound on Nugget Road attempting to cross the northbound lanes of U.S. 81.
A northbound 2019 Ford F250 driven by Dalton J. Williams, 20, Hebron, NE., struck the Volvo semi on the driver's side ejecting Tibbits.
A northbound Kenworth semi driven by Bernardo Tamayo, 59, Dallas, TX, attempted to avoid the other two vehicles. The Kenworth crossed the southbound lanes of U. S. 81 and overturned in the west ditch.
Tibbits was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Wilson Funeral Home. EMS transported Williams and Tamayo to Salina Regional Health Center. Tibbits was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
