Kansas State University is giving middle and high school students a unique opportunity to explore the Manhattan campus and experience the joys of science, technology, engineering and math through hands-on activities and events at a workshop this summer.
K-State's KAWSE office is hosting the GROW/EXCITE pre-college summer workshop for middle and high school students from June 3-5.
Participants will get a taste of life on campus by engaging in STEM activities led by Wildcats, staying in the residence halls and making connections with K-State students, faculty and staff.
"The KAWSE GROW/EXCITE summer workshop aims to advance K-State's commitment to create career pathways for learners of all ages," said Margaret Mohr-Schroeder, vice provost for academic affairs and innovation. "We're excited to welcome students to campus and provide engaging hands-on experiences to ignite their interest in a STEM education and future career."
Registration is due by May 10 and includes a two-night stay in residence halls on the K-State campus, meals, snacks, camp swag and all materials needed to participate in workshop activities.
Financial need-based scholarships are available to those who meet the criteria. Students may apply for a scholarship when registering for the event.
"My favorite part about the workshop was meeting new people and actual college students who have a major in something I might major in as well," said a former GROW/EXCITE summer workshop participant.
Students who will finish grades 5, 6 or 7 this May will attend the GROW summer workshop, and students who will finish grades 8, 9, 10 or 11 will attend the EXCITE summer workshop.
The two camps will occur simultaneously; students will have different sessions depending on their age group.

Established in 2011, the KAWSE program endeavors to increase the participation, retention and advancement of the next generation of students in STEM fields. KAWSE programs are open to all and emphasize the exciting educational and professional opportunities available in various STEM disciplines.
