Dr. Marvin K. Lawton

Dr. Marvin K. Lawton, 88, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020 at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia, Kansas.  He was born in Lincoln Nebraska on December 31, 1931 to Peter and Luzena Lawton.  He graduated from Lincoln High School (1949) and the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Arts Degree (1953).  He married Joan A Brenneman July 4, 1954 at St Paul's Methodist Church in Lincoln, Nebraska.  He graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine(1958, served his internship at University Hospital in Omaha, completed a general surgery residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (1963) and was certified by American Board of Surgery (1964).  He served as Captain and surgeon at the U.S. Army Hospital at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri (1963-65)

Dr Lawton joined the Gelvin-Haughey Clinic in Concordia (1965).  He became a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons (1965) and a Fellow in the Southwest Surgical Congress (1966).  He was a member of the American Medical Association, Kansas Medical Society, Cloud County Medical Society, Elks, Moose, Country Club, University of Nebraska Foundation, and First United Methodist Church.  He was a surgeon and partner in the Concordia Medical Group until 1987 and continued working at the clinic until August 1994.

He enjoyed reading, gardening, and all sports, especially playing golf.  He was a devoted family man attending his children's and grandchildren's activities and events, and taking them on trips coast to coast, Mexico, Canada, and Hawaii.  He and Joan also enjoyed cruises to South Pacific, Alaska, Mediterranean, British Isles, South and Central America.

He is survived by his wife Joan, daughter Janet Ripple (Larry, and son Dr. Steven K Lawton (Shari); 7 grandchildren- Greg Hammond, Eric Hammond, Amanda Hooten (Lucas, Brittney Becker (Kyle, Corbin Lawton (Robin, Carrigan Lawton, and Adley Lawton.

Funeral service will be Friday, March 6, 2020 at 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, Concordia, with Pastor Melanie Adams officiating. A private family burial will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 5, 2020 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.  Family will receive friends from 6-8 pm.
