A Salina cab driver was robbed early this morning after one of two suspects in his vehicle lit a box of matches and placed it under the driver's seat.
Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning that a 49-year-old driver for Best Cab was sent to the 800 block of West North Street shortly after 3:30 a.m. Friday to pick up two males. When the driver arrived, two white males in their late teens or early 20s who were dressed in all black and wearing ski masks got into the cab, Forrester said. One sat in the front passenger seat and the other in the back seat behind the driver, Forrester noted.
The person in the back seat lit a box of matches and placed it under the driver's seat, according to Forrester. When the driver got out of the car to put the fire out, the two passengers grabbed the driver's wallet and cab fares he had collected and fled, Forrester said.
