Doris Janet Chase, 87, of Council Grove, went home to be with The Lord, Wednesday, February 26th, 2020, after a short bout with Leukemia.  Doris is survived by a sister, Geneva (Hank) Bast of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a son, Brian (Becky) Chase of Council Grove, Kansas; a daughter, Carla (Robb) Stephenson of Westmoreland, Kansas; 4 grandchildren, Jesse (Deidre) Knight of Council Grove, Kansas; Michael Chase of Lyons, Kansas; Mark (Natasha) Chase of Emporia, Kansas; and Jana (Justin) Phillips of Tribune, Kansas.  Doris was also blessed with 6 step-grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, L. Radford “Rack” Chase, and 6 siblings; brothers Junior, Bill, Dick, Bob, and sisters Maxine and Roberta.

Doris was born to John Sherman Blanton and Leora (Parrish) Blanton on September 16, 1932 in Dunlap, Kansas.  She lived with her seven siblings and her parents until she married Rack on October 18, 1952.

Doris and Rack travelled the country, residing in California and New Mexico before settling back in Council Grove. They opened several businesses, including:  Council Grove Cycle Sales, Chase Liquor, Council Grove Metals, Chase Rentals, Doris’s Creative Quilting, and several other ventures that they enjoyed.  Doris was a busy bee, as she was also employed by Fairmont Creamery, SRS of Kansas, Varney’s Bookstore, The Cottage House, and completed many college courses at Butler Community College of Council Grove.  Doris and Rack enjoyed many years of good friends and family while living on the Council Grove City Lake; where ever the two of them were, a good time was sure to follow.  The memories made during these years have provided many stories, none embellished, over the last several days.

Doris enjoyed being outdoors gardening, taking care of her yard, quilting, genealogy, and nurturing (and spaying) the neighborhood kitties.  She had a love for life and never had a bad day, as was evidenced by her daily saying “I always have a good day!”.  She was a regular at Silver Sneakers at Council Grove Life Center and frequently enjoyed gambling excursions with good friends.  She was an active member of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church and spent several years volunteering at the Community Thrift Store.

Doris will be missed by many.  In her memory, a memorial contribution can be made to Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, in care of Sawyer Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.  A rosary will be held at 6:30PM on Monday, March 2nd, with visitation to follow.  Funeral mass will be held at 10:00AM on Tuesday, March 3rd, with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
