A 51-year-old Salina man was arrested on suspicion of multiple drug offenses after a brief chase came to a muddy conclusion early this morning.
At approximately 12:15 a.m. today, an officer on patrol noticed a 2017 Honda Ridgeline driving southbound in the 800 block of North Ninth Street without any tail lights, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning. The pickup turned down an alley and parked behind a residence in the 700 block of North Eighth Street, he said.
The officer recognized the driver, Marquis Richardson, 51, of Salina, who had an outstanding warrant, Forrester said. The officer requested that a K-9 be brought to the location, he said.
When the officer informed Richardson of the warrant, Richardson began running toward the front yard while allegedly discarding a sock that had methamphetamine, crack cocaine, marijuana, and various prescription pills, Forrester said. The brief chase came to a conclusion when Richardson fell in some mud and was taken into custody, Forrester added.
According to Forrester, the sock contained 44 grams of methamphetamine, 16 grams of crack cocaine, three baggies that totaled 16 grams of marijuana, and various narcotic pills. When the pickup was searched, drug paraphernalia was found, he added.
Richardson was arrested on suspicion of the following, Forrester said.
Two counts of possession with intent to distribute a certain stimulant
Possession with intent to distribute an opiate
Three counts of no drug tax stamp
Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute
Possession of opiate narcotics
Felony possession of drug paraphernalia
Interference with a law enforcement officer
