The Saline County Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident in which a discarded gun safe was found Sunday morning in a ditch east of Salina.

According to Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan, a black two-foot by two-foot by five-foot 370-pound Liberty Revolution gun safe was found in a ditch in the 4300 block of East North Street late Sunday morning. The door of the safe had been forced open and broken off and a large square hole had been cut in the bottom of the safe, Soldan said. The safe was empty, he said.

The person who reported finding the safe to the Saline County Sheriff's Office noted that the safe had not been there the day before, Soldan added.
