Harold “Butch” Johnson

Harold “Butch” Johnson, 71 of Concordia, Kansas passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020 in Casa Grande, Arizona.  He was born September 20, 1948, in Nelson, Nebraska to Lowell and Mildred (Sprague) Johnson.  Butch graduated from Jamestown High School in 1966 and enlisted in the US Navy in April of 1967.  While in the Navy, he achieved Radarman Second Class and served tours in the Mideast and Mediterranean on the USS Stickell.  He was honorably discharged in September 1970.  After returning from the Navy, he attended Beloit Vo-tech studying electronics and became a journeyman power meter man.  He worked 31 years at the power company, retiring in 2005 to become a full time farmer/rancher.

On March 20, 1971, he was united in marriage to Carmen Schou and they were married 48 years and 11 months working side-by-side.  To this union two sons were born, Skeet and Jay. 

Butch loved calf roping, good horses, farming, running cattle, and coaching youth baseball; but most importantly, he loved his family. During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and playing pickleball in Arizona.  He was a proud husband, father, and grandfather.  He had a love for music and could name songs and artists as well as tell you the history of so many.  He was a walking encyclopedia full of knowledge and facts.  Butch never met a stranger, loved to tell jokes, and enjoyed visiting with people in all walks of life.  

He is survived by his wife Carmen of the home;  sons, Skeet (Brooke) Johnson (Basehor, KS, Jay (Stacie) Johnson (Parkville, MO); 6 grandchildren Cole, Mason, Cody, Caycee, Morgan, and Myles; sister Marjory Sollers (Roanoke, TX, sister-in-law Celise (Alan) Lawson (Agenda, KS, brother-in-law Einer (Connie) Schou (Cuba, KS); nieces and nephews, and many friends in Casa Grande, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Larry Johnson, sisters Norma Lee Flinn & Shirley Prather, and nephew Brian Sollers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, February 28, 2020 at Chaput Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas with Randy Paugh Officiating.  Burial will follow at Jamestown Cemetery, Jamestown, Kansas.  Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #27  and the US Navy Honor Guard.

Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020 from 1-8 pm with the family greeting friends from 6-8, all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.
