A two-vehicle collision Tuesday morning in north Salina sent one passenger to the hospital.
Dolton Dewitt, 20, of Salina, was southbound on North Fifth Street in a 2001 Buick Century when he failed to yield the right of way to 2014 Ford F150 that was eastbound on East Woodland Avenue, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning. The pickup was driven by Joshua Davis, 36, of Salina, Forrester said.
After the collision, Dewitt drove the Buick away, traveling north on North Fifth Street, Forrester noted. A witness described the Buick to officers, he added. The car was found abandoned in the 1200 block of North Fifth Street, Forrester said.
Approximately 45 minutes later, Dewitt called the Salina Police Department to make a stolen vehicle report, and then went to the department to meet with an officer, Forrester explained.
Forrester said that despite Dewitt's efforts, evidence at the scene confirmed that Dewitt was the driver of the car at the time of the collision.
Dewitt was cited for the following, Forrester said.
Driving with a suspended license
No proof of insurance
Failure to yield the right-of-way
Leaving the scene of an accident
Duty to give information
According to Forrester, Davis complained of shoulder pain and was looked at by EMTs at the scene. A 56-year-old male passenger in the pickup complained of neck and back pain and was transported to Salina Regional Health Center, Forrester said.
The Buick had disabling front-end damage and had to be towed, while the pickup had damage to the rear, but was able to be driven away, Forrester said.
