Marilou Kay Feyerhermpassed away on February 11, 2020 at the age of 69. She was born January 28, 1951 in Roswell, NM to Verna and Robert Edmiston. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert, James, and Randy; two daughters, Gretchen and Adrianna; and granddaughter, Chloe.
Marilou grew up in a military family and would often entertain her children by sharing stories about the many different places she lived. Her family eventually settled in Wichita, KS where she attended and graduated from Wichita South High School. After high school, she attended the University of Kansas for journalism and was a life-long Jayhawk fan. She had a love of words and enjoyed challenging word games and puzzles.
On October 10, 1970, she married Robert, and they settled in Salina, Kansas in 1978. They had eight children together, and as a young couple suffered the loss of their daughter Gretchen to SIDS. After the loss, Marilou was involved in Compassionate Friends and offered support to other families.
She was a devoted mother and cheerleader in her children's lives. She loved watching her kids play sports and could always be heard from the stands. Marilou valued education and community involvement. A strong role model, she passed on her commitment to feminist issues and standing up for your beliefs. Throughout her life she was involved in the PTA, the League of Women Voters, 4-H, EHU, and the Democratic Party. After raising her children, Marilou worked over 20 years as a retail merchandiser.
As a devout Presbyterian, she knew she would someday be reunited with those whom she lost and loved. She will be remembered fondly for her creative homemade Halloween costumes, sarcastic sense of humor, love of politics, and extensive trivia and pop culture knowledge. As a family, we are saddened to lose such a unique and strong-minded woman, but we know her reunion in heaven will be one of love and peace.
Marilou is survived by her husband Robert of Salina; daughters, Richelle Feyerherm (Robert Jacobs) of Cumming, GA; Heidi Feyerherm-Smith (Kevin Smith) of Salina; Katrina Feyerherm of New London, CT; Kjersten Feyerherm (Scott Agin) of Minneapolis, MN; sons, Robert Feyerherm II (Erin) of Topeka; and Jonathon Feyerherm of Reno, NV; sister, Karen Edmiston-Hunt of Wichita, KS; brother, Larry Edmiston (Candace) of Goodyear, AZ; nieces, Katie Edmiston and Meghan Edmiston; nephew, Chris Edmiston; and grandchildren, Brianna, Hunter, Ethan, Hailey, Weylent, Gracie, Lexiana, Samuel, Adelaide, and Josephine.
