Elinor A. Cramer, 102, of Salina, passed away Monday, November 9, 2020. Elinor was born March 27, 1918 in rural Louisville, Nebraska to Otto John and Emma (Fornoff) Sprieck.
She married Donald T. Cramer on February 23, 1936 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Elinor taught school, during war years she opened a homemade soap business. After the war, she and her husband were owners of a restaurant in Ralston, Nebraska. They then moved to Washington, Kansas and operated a frozen food and locker business. They moved to Hiawatha, Kansas and she was appointed City Clerk. Elinor was also a church secretary and clerk of session for the Hiawatha Presbyterian church. Elinor was noted for designing and creating special occasion hats for clientele.
In 1970 she was appointed to City Clerk and City Manager of Harper Woods, Michigan. She was instrumental in the construction of an 8 story, 132 apartment Senior Citizen Retirement Home and became the manager.
After retirement Elinor moved to Holly Hill, South Carolina. In 1993. Elinor moved to Salina, Kansas and to McCall Manor in 1994.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 brothers; Ernest, Arthur, Edward and Elmer Sprieck, sisters; Elvira Hiel and Augusta Elliott, son; David Eugene Cramer who passed in Holly Hill, SC October 4, 2015.
Elinor is survived by a son Richard Allen Cramer and wife Mary of Great Bend, Son David’s treasured wife Julie Cramer, of Holly Hill, SC, 3 grandchildren, Troy Cramer (Dawn) of Salina, Tiffany Jones (Taylor) of Manhattan, Travis Cramer (Janae) of Bennington, and 7 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Elinor’s body was donated to the KU Medical Center.
