Arnold Edward Lohmeyer

On September 22, 1919 a son was born to Louis W. and Minnie Lohmeyer who they would name Arnold Edward. He was baptized on October 5, 1919 in Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. Carl Lehembauer. Arnold attended Zion Lutheran school for eight years and was confirmed in 1933 by Rev. Kartenson. Arnold graduated from Linn Rural High School in 1937. He was active in the Future Farmers of America and the 4-H club during those years and was on judging teams. He was also Vice President of State FFA and awarded trips in both FFA and 4-H.

He helped his parents farm and was drafted into the Army August 5, 1941 and served until December 7, 1945. He was assigned to the 698th Ordinance Company after basic training in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He served in Fort Knox and Hawaii until the end of the war and was discharged on December 7, 1945.

Arnold married Elfreida Ohlde on February 3, 1946. To this union they were blessed with two children, daughter Peggy and son Stanton. He became active in St. John Church serving as Secretary and Treasurer for 50 years. Arnold was a Sunday School teacher and sang in both the Men’s and Mixed Choirs. He served as president of the local LLL Club and Zone President, along with Vice President of the Kansas District Lutheran Laymen’s League.

Arnold was active in other organizations, President of N. E. Kansas Holstein Association and served as President of Kansas Holstein Association. He served as President of M.C.-DHIA and was a Board member and president of the state DHIA, as well as president of Washington County Extension and State Extension Service. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife of 64 years, daughter Peggy, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Funeral Services: Friday, February 7, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the St Johns Lutheran Church in Palmer, KS

Burial: St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery

Visitation: Thursday, February 6, 2020 from 4-8 PM at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home
