Take a look at petroglyphs with Salina's Smoky Hill Museum.

Join all three authors of the newly published book, Petroglyphs of the Kansas Smoky Hills, as they share amazing photos from their book.

The presentation is scheduled for 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Smoky Hill Museum, 211 West Iron Avenue, and is open to the public at no charge.

What is a petroglyph? It’s a connection to people long since gone. It’s a message we try to decipher and understand. It’s a carving in rock. They’ll discuss what’s known about the petroglyphs and what the carvings can tell us about the early people of Kansas.

Rex Buchanan is director emeritus of the KS Geological Survey, an editor, author, and presenter. Burke Griggs is a fellow at the Woods Institute for the Environment, associate professor, author, and scholar. Josh Svaty is a fifth-generation farmer, former KS secretary of agriculture and is actively engaged in natural resource issues. All three will be happy to sign copies of their book after the presentation.

The Smoky Hill Museum is a nationally accredited history museum, in the heart of downtown Salina. This free museum is open Tuesday-Friday 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Also, be sure to stop by the museum store for a wide variety of regional and Kansas products, local artwork, and gifts for all ages.
