Saline County jail personnel injured after incident with inmate

Two Saline County Jail employees were injured and an inmate faces additional requested charges after an incident Wednesday night.

Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan said this morning that a 63-year-old female deputy was attempting to move Zachary McKay, 20, to another cell when he attacked her, causing a fracture to at least one of her facial bones and damaging her glasses. A 27-year-old guard required stitches in his lip, but was able to subdue McKay until other sheriff's personnel could arrive, Soldan said.

New requested charges against McKay include the following, Soldan said.

Aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer

Battery of a law enforcement officer

Damage to property

Soldan said McKay had been in the Saline County Jail since Dec. 16, 2019.
