A 19-year-old Salina man has been arrested in connection with a number of recent damage to property cases.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning that surveillance video played a role in identifying the suspect.

Officers responded Wednesday to Save A Lot, 511 East Iron Avenue, for the report of damage to property, he said. A 41-inch by 31-inch upper window on the south side of the building had been broken out at approximately 12:30 a.m., Forrester said. The damage was estimated at $500, he added.

Forrester said that surveillance video showed a dark, General Motors-style pickup with a toolbox drive by at that time. The pickup was similar to one captured on surveillance video at Allpak Battery, 845 North Broadway Boulevard, when damage was done there recently, he said.

Police also reviewed other surveillance videos in the area of Save A Lot, and noticed that the pickup had a distinct dent in the driver's side door, Forrester said.

Information about the pickup was put out to all patrol officers, and at approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday, one of them saw the pickup traveling west on West Crawford Street, he said. The officer made contact with the driver, Gavven Yungeberg, 19, of Salina, in the Sunset Plaza parking lot, Forrester said.

Yungeberg was taken to the Salina Police Department for questioning and his pickup was impounded, Forrester said.

Later Wednesday evening, Yungeberg was arrested on requested charges of seven counts of damage to property at the following, Forrester said.

Bennett Autoplex, 651 South Ohio Street

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, 720 South Ohio Street

Great Plains Federal Credit Union, 2061 South Ohio Street

Allpak Battery, 845 North Broadway Boulevard

StatCare, 1001 South Ohio Street

Total damage was estimated at $5,900, Forrester said.
