Local MLK celebration: 'Never Give Up'

A variety of activities are scheduled for the Salina celebration of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Never Give Up” is the theme of this year's community celebration.

Activities begin today and run through Monday. Following is the schedule.

Saturday -- 6 p.m.

Community Potluck Dinner. New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 321 North Eighth Street. Bring a dish to share. Drinks and tableware provided.

Sunday -- 3:30 p.m.

Citywide Celebration. New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. Speaker: Dr. Adrian Douglas, president of Cloud County Community College. Music will be provided by various soloists and “sing-along” selections with attendees.

Monday -- noon

Youth-Centered Celebration. St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church, 215 South Chicago Street. Douglas also will be the featured speaker for this celebration, which also will include musical entertainment.
