One person is dead and another injured after a one-vehicle accident early this morning on North Ohio Street.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning that a 2004 Ford F150 pickup driven by Deanna Pargman, 60, of Salina, was northbound in the 900 block of North Ohio Street heading up over the viaduct when the pickup went left of center, striking the west curb line. Pargman lost control of the pickup, which went back across to the east side of the street, struck a power pole, rolled, and came to rest on the driver's side, he said.

The accident occurred at 12:40 a.m. Wednesday, according to Forrester.

Pargman, who was trapped in the vehicle, had fatal injuries, Forrester said.

A 21-year-old passenger, Matthew Upshaw, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Salina Regional Health Center, Forrester said.

The pickup was destroyed and had to be towed from the scene, he added.
