The City of Salina has announced a street repair project in the central part of town.
On Monday, Vogts-Parga Construction of Newton will begin repairing the intersection of East Crawford Street and Roach Street, according to information from the city.
The project includes replacing the five-inch thick concrete panels that were placed in 2017 but have since failed. City staff, contractor staff, and private experts concluded the failure was due to unforeseeable design and subgrade issues that should be corrected with the repairs.
The repairs will be constructed in two phases, half at a time. Crawford Street traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, the 35 mph speed limit will be reduced to 20 mph, and left turns will not be allowed onto Roach Street to facilitate through traffic. Roach Street will be unobstructed.
Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes and allow additional time to continue to reach nearby destinations. The work is scheduled to be completed in one to two weeks, weather permitting.
