A 39-year-old Phoenix, Ariz., man was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of trespassing and theft.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning that officers were dispatched to the 300 block of North Santa Fe Avenue for the report of someone looking into parked vehicles. A witness reported that a white male with dark hair who was wearing sweats and carrying a backpack was seen rifling through a Chevrolet S10 pickup and a Dodge pickup, Forrester said. The Chevrolet pickup was owned by Frank Karber, 51, of Salina, and the Dodge pickup was owned by Leroy Harp, 71, of Salina, he said. Neither man reported anything missing from their pickups, Forrester said.

Officers located Nathan Eguez, 39, of Phoenix, Ariz., who appeared to be intoxicated, Forrester said.

While officers were talking with Eguez, another report came in from a patron of the Voo, 249 North Santa Fe Avenue, who had his cellphone stolen, Forrester said. Calvin Calp, 48, of Salina, reported that he set his cellphone down while playing pool and it disappeared, Forrester explained. Calp told police that Eguez was seen near the cellphone, he added. Forrester said Calp's cellphone, valued at $1,000, was located in Eguez's backpack.

Eguez was arrested on suspicion of trespassing and theft, Forrester said.
