A Bennington teen was injured Tuesday morning north of Salina when his car went airborne and rolled.

Saline County Undersheriff Brent Melander said this morning that Nathaniel Jamison, 18, of Bennington, was driving north on Kansas Highway 143 near Watkins Road when he possibly fell asleep and his 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse drifted into the west ditch, hit a field entrance, went airborne, and rolled. The car then struck and snapped a DS&O Rural Electric power pole before coming to rest at the edge of a field, Melander said.

The accident occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, he said.

Jamison, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Salina Regional Health Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Melander.

The car was totaled and had to be towed from the scene, he added.

Melander said an investigation continues to determine the exact cause of the accident.
