William Ernest (Bill) Bishop

William Ernest (Bill) Bishop, 87, of McPherson, Kansas passed away at 6:53 a.m., Wednesday, January 1st, 2020 while in the company of family members, at McPherson Hospital.

William was born in Kanorado, KS on May 9, 1932, a son of Ernest William and Gladys M. (Livengood) Bishop.

William attended the Kanorado schools, graduating from Kanorado High School, Kanarado, Kansas in 1951.

He attended New Hope Evangelical Church McPherson, Bill also attended Goodland Bible Chuch and Calvary Gospel Church while living in Goodland, Kansas.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955 until he was honorably discharge.

Throughout Bill's life he worked for Foust Drilling for 4 years, Bartlette Grain, and then for Mueller Grain Elevator for 14 years. Bill then owned and operated The Corner Gas Service Station until his retirement in 1998.

Bill was a member of the Elks Lodge; V.F.W. Post 2715. He also enjoyed woodworking, restoring cars, mechanic work, loved driving his wrecker, and enjoyed delivering gas to his customers on the farm, loved his dogs, K-State games, watching westerns on t.v, was a jack of all trades, enjoyed the outdoors and working in his flower garden, loved all his grandchildren and their accomplishments and spending time with family and friends.

William Ernest Bishop was united in marriage to Twila M. Stephens on December 20, 1951 at The First Christian Church, Goodland, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Kanorado, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of two daughters, Cindy and Debbie. They then moved to McPherson in 2007 to be closer to the kids. .

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Twila Bishop, of McPherson, Kansas; his daughters, Cindy Moors and her husband Winston, of McPherson, Kansas and Debbie McIntyre and her husband Brian, of Waukesha, Wisconsin; his sister Barbara Neitzel, of Manhattan, Kansas; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lois Hawkes; and a grandson Derek McIntyre.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2020 from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas.

The funeral service will be held at at First Baptist Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 6th, 2020 with Pastor Brian McIntyre officiating.

Burial will be at the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas with military honors presented by the American Legion Post 24 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 both of McPherson.
