ELLSWORTH COUNTY—Four people were transported to the hospital in Salina after in two separate accidents just before 4:30p.m. Sunday on Interstate 70.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2007 Chevy Silverado driven by Heather Alise Thorton, 51, Coffeyville, was eastbound on Interstate 70 just east of the Kansas 14 exit. The driver lost control of the pickup, struck a guard rail and overturned in the ditch.
EMS transported Thornton and passengers Lisa Lee Thornton, 51, Coffeyville, to Salina Regional Health Center (SRHC). A 4-year-old passenger was not injured. All three were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.
A few minutes later, a 2015 Nissan Sentra driven by Michael Joseph Young, 57, Leavenworth, was eastbound on Interstate 70 under the Niles Road overpass.
The driver lost control of the vehicle due to road conditions. The Nissan struck the guardrail and came to rest in the median.
EMS transported passengers in the vehicle Cynthia Alice Young, 55, and Christian Graves, 15, both of Leavenworth, to SRHC. The driver was not injured. All three were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.
