Salina man arrested after striking vehicles, sign post

A 28-year-old Salina man was taken into custody on requested charges of DUI, reckless driving, and no proof of insurance after hitting two vehicles and two handicapped parking signs, and running over a shopping cart in the Walmart parking lot late Thursday night.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said officers were sent to Walmart at 2900 S. 9th about 10:30 p.m. on the report of a vehicle striking vehicles  and sign poles in the parking lot.

When officers arrived, the found Tyler Sunderlin in a disabled 2007 Jeep Liberty.  Witnesses said the Jeep was going southbound and accelerated rapidly. 

The Jeep first struck a parked 1997 Ford Ranger pickup owned by Austin Coloazo of Salina. It then hit the poles of two handicapped parking signs that were secured in concrete, before hitting the rear passenger side of an RV owned by Robert Saltzman of Salina.

Forrester said Sunderlin appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
