Dean A. Johnson, 83, Minneapolis, died Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Salina Regional Health Center.  Dean was born December 12, 1936 in Kingsbury County, SD to Lovell and Alice (Fenner) Johnson.

He was a graduate of Carthage High School, Carthage, SD. Dean also graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from South Dakota State University.  He and Illa Rae Sumnicht were united in marriage on June 24, 1959 in Yankton, SD.  Dean and Illa Rae owned and operated City Pharmacy in Minneapolis for 40 years; retiring in 2004.  He belonged to several civic organizations and he was a longtime member of the Minneapolis First United Methodist Church.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Illa Rae; and daughter, Theresa “Terri” Penn.

Survivors are his sons, Lance (Donna) Johnson and Kent Johnson; five grandchildren; sister, Sally Madison; and nieces and nephews.

It was Dean’s wishes to have private graveside services in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis.  Visitation will be from 2:00 to 7:00 Thursday, December 19 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Campbell Straw Built Museum, Carthage, SD or the Minneapolis First United Methodist Church and may be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467.
