Gerald Lee Newell, 77, Minneapolis, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2019 in Salina. He was born July 26, 1942 to LaVaughn and Catherine (Hammel) Newell.
Gerald and Barbara Murphy were united in marriage in February 1966. Gerald drove for Graves Truck Lines for 25 years; hauling meat to the west coast and later had his own fleet of trucks. He was a dispatcher in Wichita for Quick Transfer and then he moved to Minneapolis to farm the family farm. Gerald enjoyed hunting with coon dogs, fishing, and watching his grandchildren participate in school and athletic events. He was a farmer at heart and enjoyed morning coffee with his Minneapolis and Bennington friends.
Survivors are his wife, Barbara of the home; daughter, Kelley Nordberg of Wamego; son, Bryan Newell (Wymetta) of Wamego; grandchildren, Sean Nordberg, Lauren Newell, Caiden Newell, and Garrett Newell; sister, Dixie Senters (Garry); brother, Leroy Newell (Roberta); and nieces and nephews.
It was Gerald’s wishes to be cremated and no services be held. Private burial will be in Bennington Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 18 at the Bennington Senior Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Church of Bennington or the Minneapolis Public Library and may be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O.
