This week’s Comfort Heating and Air Salute to Service honoree is Kenny Bernard.

Kenny, who has a long history in law enforcement, currently serves as a captain with the Ellsworth Police Department.

Kenny began his law enforcement career in 1978 as a patrolman with the Osborne Police Department. In 1979, he became chief of police for the Downs Police Department. Kenny became undersheriff for the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office in 1981. In 1985, he became a patrolman for the Beloit Police Department.

In 1986, Kenny moved to Colorado to become deputy sheriff of the Weld County Sheriff's Office. From 1988-2012, Kenny served with the Kansas Department of Corrections at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility, retiring as a captain. He also served part time as chief of police for the Kanopolis Police Department from 1996-2018.

From 2000-2010, Kenny also served part time as Ellsworth County Emergency Management Director. In 2008, he joined the Ellsworth Police Department as a part time officer. He became a full-time employee of the department in 2012.

"As you can see Kenny has served many communities and touched many lives over his years of faithful service. Kenny is a very important part of not only the police departments of Ellsworth and Kanopolis but communities too. We are all honored to know Kenny and to work with him," a nominator wrote.

Congratulations, Kenny, on being selected as this week’s Comfort Heating and Air Salute to Service honoree! Thank you for your service!

Each week during the NFL regular season, Comfort Heating and Air will salute a member of our military, a local police officer, member of the fire department, a paramedic, or other first responder, honoring those everyday heroes who keep our community safe!

Honorees receive dinner and dessert for two from Chic-fil-A and are put in a random drawing to attend the Chiefs vs. Chargers game on Dec. 29 at Arrowhead Stadium. The grand prize includes lower level tickets to the game, VIP, 2 nights’ hotel stay at the Holiday Inn Kansas City Downtown, and a Chiefs fan pack valued at more than $1,000.

“I’m really excited to expand the Salute to Service contest this year. We’re so grateful to all the active duty military and veterans out there, but also wanted to honor everyday heroes too!” said Tucker Hilbert, owner of Comfort Heating & Air. “We’re thankful to our community partners like Chick-fil-A for helping us make sure each weekly winner feels appreciated.”
