A 25-year-old woman was cited after a hit and run in west Salina early Wednesday morning.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Wednesday that the incident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of Pontiac Avenue. Police were dispatched to the scene after a neighbor heard a loud crash and looked out to see a woman pushing a car down the street, he said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix disabled in the middle of the street, Forrester said. According to Forrester, the Grand Prix was southbound on Pontiac Avenue when it sideswiped a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup belonging to Robert Smith of Salina. The pickup, which was legally parked, sustained damage to the driver's side rear bumper and quarterpanel, he said. The front of the passenger's side of the Grand Prix was damaged to the extent that the steering wheel would not turn the front passenger side wheel, Forrester said.

Officers made contact with the driver of the Grand Prix, Valerie Vogel, 25, of Salina, after she abandoned the car and walked to her sister's house a few blocks away, Forrester said.

Vogel was cited for driving on a laned roadway and duty to report an accident, he said.
