Counties in our area have been placed under high wind watches for Saturday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Wichita has issued a high wind watch in effect from late Saturday morning through Saturday evening for the following counties in our area.
Ellsworth County
Lincoln County
McPherson County
Saline County
West winds of 30 to 45 mph with gusts around 60 mph are possible.
Damaging winds could blow down large tree limbs and power lines. Power outages are possible. Travel could be dangerous, especially for high profile vehicles.
Fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to the onset of winds.
UPDATED: NWS in Hastings, Neb. has moved Jewell County and Mitchell County to a high wind warning for Saturday.
This replaces the high wind watch issued earlier.
According to NWS, a high wind warning is in effect for Jewell County and Mitchell County from noon Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday.
Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are expected.
Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Isolated power outages are expected. Outbuildings could be damaged. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.
