Police are investigating an incident in which a handgun locked in a pickup allegedly went missing while its owner was at the hospital.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Wednesday that a 36-year-old Salina man reported that his Glock 19 Generation 4 9mm handgun was locked in his pickup when he went to Salina Regional Health Center, 400 South Santa Fe Avenue, for treatment. At some point, the gun disappeared from the pickup, Forrester said. The incident is alleged to have occurred between 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, according to Forrester.

There was no sign of forced entry and the man had his keys with him, Forrester said. A female acquaintance of the man is being looked at as a possible suspect, he added.

The handgun was valued at $550, Forrester said.
