Viola Blackwood, 99 died November 21, 2019 in Clay Center, KS. She was born on December 7, 1919 in Clay Center, the daughter of Calvin and Caroline (Taddiken) Lippe. Viola was raised near the Morganville Community. She attended Tabor country school and graduated from Clay Center High School. Viola married Francis Blackwood on August 28, 1940. They made their home on a farm in Clay County before moving to Lawrence, KS and then to Chanute. They owned and operated Blackwood White Nash Agency and Viola worked in an overhaul factory. The later moved to Independence, KS. Viola worked for Wiggins Wholesale, Wards catalogue department, Electric Manufacturing CO., and managed King Apartments for 30 years. In 2014, Viola returned to Clay Center to live closer to family. Viola was a member of the Independence United Methodist Church, Clipper Sunday school class, United Methodist Women and Beta Sigma Phi. She was preceded in death by her husband on December 16, 2005; her parents; 5 brothers, Harvey, Clarence, Fred, Orville and William Lippe; 2 sisters, Minnie Cyr and Irene Green.
