Bethany honors area high school artists

LINDSBORG -- Area high school artists recently were recognized during a closing reception and awards ceremony for a high school exhibition at Bethany College.


The Bethany College Department of Art hosted the event on Sunday, and nearly 100 people enjoyed the exhibition in Mingenback Art Gallery that featured the works of students from Buhler, Smoky Valley (Lindsborg, Salina Central, and McPherson high schools.


Interim President Elizabeth Mauch handed out the awards for Best of School Artworks. This was the first area high school art exhibition since the mid-1990s at Bethany College. 


Awards were given as follows.


Buhler High School

 

Best of show: Kelsey Babcock "Overgrown"


Honorable mention: Kyle Burkhart, "Sid the Sloth;" Orrin Tesch, "Gantrisk;" and Kaylea Adcock, "Paper Can't Handle"


McPherson High School


Best of show: Elaulus Reazin


Honorable mention: Faith Lininger; Carly Stout; and Maliya Paine, "Texture Elephant"


Salina Central High School


Best of show: Shawn Pyeatt, "Bubblegum Princess"


Honorable mention: Jess Colborn, "Tri-Jay Necklace;" Aleigha Haller, "Pitcher;" and Sidney Sorrell, "Stretched"


Smoky Valley High School


Best of show: Fiona Lorenzen "Eye of the Tiger"


Honorable mention: Skylar Venables, "Think About It;"

Lydia Peterson, "Contour Fun;" and Caycee Lindstrom, "Imagination"
