A pickup that was reported stolen early Monday morning in downtown Salina is believed to have been involved in a series of hit-and-runs in the central part of town.
Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Monday that officers were called to a parking lot in the 100 block of North Seventh Street behind Big Nose Kate's shortly after 1 a.m. for the report of a stolen pickup. Aaron Scheck, 23, of Salina, told police that his 1999 white Dodge Ram 1500 was stolen from the parking lot, Forrester said. Scheck told police he was not sure whether he had left his keys in the bar, Forrester said. The pickup was valued at $1,200, he said.
At 2:30 a.m. Monday, police were told that the pickup was in the front yard of a residence in the 900 block of West Walnut Street, Forrester said. The pickup was unoccupied and had major damage to the driver's side front quarter panel and wheel, which was almost falling off, he said.
It was then discovered that four legally parked vehicles in that block had been hit, including the following, Forrester said.
A 1999 Chevrolet S10 pickup
A 1968 Pontiac two-door
A 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan
A 2015 Dodge Ram 1500
All four vehicles had driver's side damage, Forrester said.
According to Forrester, police now have video surveillance from the area and from Big Nose Kate's that they are reviewing to determine what happened.
