UPDATED 3:41 p.m.: Combustable materials too close to a space heater are to blame for a garage fire late Wednesday afternoon in central Salina. That's the word from Salina Fire Marshal Troy Long.

The fire broke out late Wednesday morning in a detached garage at 864 Custer Street.

Long said no one was injured in the fire. He estimated the damage to be approximately $5,000 and said the structure probably was not salvageable.
