A Salina man was arrested on suspicion of battery of a law enforcement officer after an alleged altercation Sunday night.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Tuesday that officers were sent to the 100 block of North Connecticut for the report of a disorderly subject who was supposed to have active warrants out of McPherson County for robbery and kidnapping.

When officers arrived and attempted to arrest Daniel Preston, 24, he allegedly assumed a fighting stance with clenched fists until one of the officers prepared to fire a taser, at which time Preston backed down as was taken into custody, Forrester said. After Preston was in handcuff, he allegedly attempted to flee and bumped into one of the officers, and a brief struggle ensued, Forrester added. One of the officer’s nametag was damaged and his pants torn, he added.

Preston was arrested on suspicion of the following, Forrester said.

  • Felony interference with a law enforcement officer
  • Battery of a law enforcement officer
  • Assault of a law enforcement officer
  • Damage to property
