Caiden Punt, Evens Appolon and Jayden Hall were the perfect trifecta for the Kansas Wesleyan men's team.
Punt bounced back with 19 points after a rough shooting performance in his previous game, Appolon dominated play inside and scored 18 and Hall was superb on the perimeter finishing with a career-high 14 in the Coyotes' 85-69 Kansas Conference victory over York on Wednesday night inside Mabee Arena.
KWU improved to 10-13, 8-9 in the KCAC while York fell to 6-17 and 4-13.
Punt, the team's leading scorer, was 3 of 16 in the Coyotes' loss to Saint Mary on Saturday but made his first two 3-point shots of the game and was 5 of 7 from long range for the game.
"When you start off two for two you get to feeling good," coach Jordan Murdock said of Punt who also snagged six rebounds. "He did a really good job just staying focused. Every now and then he took some questionable (shots) but he's a tough shot maker so sometimes he hits those."
Appolon, KWU's powerful 6-foot-9 center, was 8 of 12 shooting, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked four shots while Hall scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half and was 6 of 7 shooting. He also had four assists.
"(Hall) does a really good job at getting downhill," Murdock said. "He's really under control for the most part. He's super-fast, not a lot of people can stay in front of him so we definitely need him to continue to be aggressive.
"(Appolon) was dealing with some sickness tonight and he still was able to get it done so that's what I'm most proud about. He continued to fight through it and did a really good job."
KWU took a quick 8-0 lead at the start and were in front the entire game. The Coyotes led by as many as 14 twice late in the first and had a 49-37 advantage at halftime.
York got no closer than eight (53-45) in the second half. Leading 73-64 with 3:40 left in the game the Coyotes pulled away with a 9-0 burst and led 82-64 with 1:24 remaining.
"I thought we came out and we were focused," Murdock said. "In that first half I thought we got kind of lackadaisical at certain points. We've got to learn how to step on people's necks, especially when we're up 19, 20 points. We were disciplined when we came out of the half too."
The Coyotes shot 48 percent for the game (31 of 64) including 10 of 19 from deep.
They outscored York 40-30 in the paint, won the rebounding battle 41-32, had 18 assists on 31 field goals and committed 10 turnovers while forcing 13.
Brandon Avedon added seven assists, eight points and two steals for KWU.
Dave Dalge had 24 points for York which shot 44 percent (25 of 57).
